Tompkins began his distinguished theatrical career by writing and directing a pair of plays as a senior at Whitworth University [College] in Spokane, Washington.  Both of the plays were professionally reviewed and were the first student written plays to be produced in 100 years of the schools existence.  He was off and running.  

At 22 years old he moved to New York City to study acting at HB Studios with Uta Hagen and became a writer/actor for the Off-Broadway houses, Cooper Square Theater and The Playlab Studio Theatre, where he founded the popular vaudeville-style review called NUDE, BUT NOT NAKED.  In 1991, he moved to Dallas, Texas and joined the New York transplanted CLASSIC THEATRE COMPANY where his work brought him to the attention of critics and agents.  

With over 75 plays to his credit on the regional stages of New York, Dallas, and Seattle, Tompkins is a Seven-Time winner of the Dallas Theatre Critics Forum Award for Best Actor and has twice been voted Actor of the Year by the Dallas Observer.  

Married in 2006, Tompkins and his wife Shauna reside in Dallas Texas. Matthew Stephen Tompkins is the founder/creator of WOLFCLAN PRODUCTIONS, a multi-media production company that serves as a haven for a colorful collection of Artists (writers, actors, directors, poets, sculptors, painters) all working in tandem to foster the unique artistic visions of one another and create the WOLFCLAN ideal, which is a group of talented people from different disciplines coming together to create something powerful and original.
